Aim & Scope

The Journal of AIDS and HIV Clinical Research (JAHCR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Pragma Journals. Four decades into the epidemic, HIV is a treatable chronic condition for many people and still a fatal one for others, and much of that gap is decided in clinics, communities and health systems rather than in the laboratory. JAHCR exists to publish the clinical and applied work that closes it.

We want research that a clinician, programme manager or policymaker could act on: studies of how treatment and prevention perform in real patients, why people fall out of care, and what works in settings with limited resources as well as well-funded ones.

Scope

JAHCR publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports and short communications in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Antiretroviral therapy: efficacy, safety, resistance and treatment switching
  • HIV prevention, including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis
  • Diagnosis, testing strategies and linkage to care
  • Viral load monitoring, treatment failure and adherence
  • Opportunistic infections and HIV co-infections, including tuberculosis and viral hepatitis
  • Non-communicable disease and ageing in people living with HIV
  • Paediatric and adolescent HIV, and prevention of vertical transmission
  • HIV in key and vulnerable populations
  • Stigma, mental health and the social determinants of HIV outcomes
  • Epidemiology, surveillance and implementation science
  • Health systems, service delivery and HIV policy
  • Immunology, vaccine research and cure strategies with clinical relevance

Peer Review

Every submission goes through double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the subject. The usual time from submission to first editorial decision is 12–14 weeks. See the Peer Review Policy for details.
